Between the release of his first EP in late 2019 and the onset of a global pandemic, Nate Goyette was left with an unavoidable opportunity to reevaluate things on his newest release, The War On Comfort. The War On Comfort retains many of the sonic characteristics of his earlier work but with a new level of refinement and focus brought on by the isolation of lockdown. From the lo-fi folk of “A Song For Helga Pataki” to the blistering guitar solo on “Blowing Smoke” (provided by Nice Try Kid's Tom Gamari) to the pensive title track, the songs are sharper, more immediate, and lyrically unified around the struggle between our desire to change and our fear of no longer being the same. Produced throughout 2022 with Matt Scott (Fattie B, Beard & Glasses, Jade Relics), The War On Comfort showcases an artist refining their craft while still charting new territory within their musical landscape. Straight-forward rock and subdued pop do not feel out of place next to one another yet each song offers its own unique appeal that rewards repeated listens. In short, The War On Comfort is something new yet familiar like meeting an old friend in a dream. And Nate likes it that way.
